Clinical Practice Guidelines Evidence-based practice provides a framework for specific clinical policies and procedures. Evidence-based practice attempts to address this disparity, by providing a dependable frame of reference upon which physicians, nurses and other practitioners can reference while assessing the efficacy and effectiveness of practice and its impact on clinical outcomes. El Paso First defines clinical practice guidelines as practice parameters, recommendations, or an agreed upon set of principles for the delivery of a certain type or aspect of health care. El Paso First has adopted both preventive practice guidelines for adults and children (such a public health guidelines that, when followed, are likely to reduce the incidence of a disease or undesired behavior) as well as clinical practice guidelines (disease/condition specific guidelines). El Paso First guidelines have been adopted and developed for the full spectrum of populations enrolled in the plan and includes national standards for specialty care.
